On the father of schoolchildren and his function

The father of the function of the father (conceptualised by Jacques Lacan) is not the father educators talk about, nor drive their demands to, when they complain about the father's behavior, his absences or even acting outs. Nevertheless, their complaints throw our attention to an intuition educators demonstrate about the importance of the father in children's education. Our text aims to verify the relation among this intuition, its historical determination and the clinical contributions from psychoanalysis, to articulate it with the present context and examine it through the contribution of the freudian concept of the Oedipus complex. For this reason, we hope to rise some elements to enrich the intersection of two areas: the clinic and the school, what is justified by our own practical experience.
