History of Psychology and Knowledge Production

Abstract:

The production of knowledge related to the journal Psicologia: Ciência e Profissão (Psychology: Science and Profession) involves greatly complex historical and institutional aspects. This study historicizes this academic serialized editorial production in psychology, addresses ongoing academic and editorial institutional arrangements, and draws on commemorative articles to show the paths and orientations the journal has adopted. The variety of the editorial experience from its early existence gives way to academic forces, especially the consolidation of graduate studies in human and social sciences in universities as historically privileged sites for knowledge production, regulated by massive and meticulous evaluation and funding processes implemented in Brazil. The stabilization of the academic format as a standard for publication, the driving forces of both academic research and its dissemination in journals, and the elaborate set of procedures the contemporary editorial landscape demands require ongoing debate about the participation of the Federal Council of Psychology in knowledge production and on the effects of the journal on professional practices.
