Having in mind the great number of individuals suffering from depression in the present days, the goal of this study is to contribute for the comprehension of this phenomenon looking for a relationship between depression and neoliberalism, a political-economic model of our days, through psychoanalytical and historic-social referentials. It also points out a consideration about the practical assistance of the psychologist. For this purpose, an analysis was carried out in order to know how the social factors can influence the constitution of the individual mental health.
