Collective Narrative Practices in Brazil: panorama and diffusion

Abstract:

This study aims to investigate how narrative practices’ professionals were introduced to narrative ideas and how these ideas have been meaningfully adapted to the Brazilian context. In total, seven psychologists who work in the narrative field from several regions of Brazil answered to a semi-structured interview addressing the following topics: their professional path, their interaction with narrative practices, the influence of narrative ideas on their professional work, the use of narrative practices in their job, and the perceived dissemination of these practices in Brazil. Data were analyzed using qualitative reflective thematic analysis. According to participants’ development and understanding, results show that narrative practice has been integrated into Brazilian context and culture. Participants have shown their contributions to this cultural adaptation, the challenges faced, and the possibilities ahead. The need to widening practices that question dominant and colonizing discourses is highlighted.
