Abstract
The study aimed to comprehend the practice of psychology through the perspective of mental health care teams. A qualitative study was carried out, using semi-structured interviews and systematic observation. Ten health care professionals of two Psychosocial Health Centers of a city in Rio Grande do Sul participated in the study. Interviews and observation were analyzed using Thematic Content Analysis. The psychology professional was pointed out as participatory in the service, highlighting changes regarding the psychological practice. The importance of the psychology professional was evidenced, characterized as a professional whose work relates to the linkage among health care team-family-society. The understanding was highlighted as a specific practice of psychology within the institution. In conclusion, the psychology practice portrays new ways of working with psychology in Mental Health Care.
