Seed germination of Peschiera fuchsiaefolia: effects of temperature and light

Peschiera fuchsiaefolia is a pasture weed of great importance in Brazil. The objective of this research was to know the germination of this specie under constant temperatures of 15, 20, 25, 30 e 35ºC with and without light (78 µmol s-1m-2/8h). The germination was evaluated weekly up to 63 days after sowing. After this period all seeds were transferred to 30ºC without light because this condition was the best in previous period. In the new conditions the evaluation reached 91 days after sowing. In the end of the experimental period died seeds and quiescent seeds were evaluated. The best temperature to germination was between 25 and 30ºC with germination average at 85%, died at 15%. The seeds of weed did not germinate at 15 and 40ºC. The seeds were indifferent to light exposure.
