Leaf area estimate in Ipomoea hederifolia and Ipomoea nil Roth: using linear dimensions of the leaf blade

To obtain an equation that allowed to estimate the leaf area of Ipomoea hederifolia, and Ipomoea nil, through leaf dimensional linear parameters, correlations were studied between the real leaf area (Sf) and the leaf blade dimensional parameters, such as main vein leaf length (C), maximum leaf width (L) and C*L. All equations, linear, geometric and exponential, provided good leaf area estimates for both species. From a practical view point, it is suggested the use of simple linear equation of the regression model using the C*L parameter, considering the linear coefficient as equal to zero. Thus, the estimate of Ipomoea hederifolia leaf area can be made using the equation Sf = 0.7583 * (C*L) and that of Ipomoea nil by using the equation Sf = 0.6122 * (C*L).
