Integrated management of purple nutsedge on sugar-cane yield

This work evaluated the integration of the mechanical method, consisting of two sequences of plowing + disking operations during the dry season (winter), with complementary applications of glyphosate (2x applied), trifloxysulfuron-sodium + ametryne and sulfentrazone herbicides, during the wet season (summer) on Cyperus rotundus management under sugarcane rotation system. Applications of trifloxysulfuron-sodium + ametryne and sulfentrazone alone were also tested. The total average of the number of Cyperus rotundus shoots was 1,433.4 m-2. At 90 days after sugar-cane planting, shoot reductions were 90.8; 92.3 and 95.4% with integration of mechanical method and the herbicides trifloxysulfuron-sodium + ametryne, sulfentrazone and two applications of glyphosate, respectively. Reductions of viable tubers were 68.5; 73.9 and 89.4%, in the wet season. The use of mechanical tools powered the action of the herbicides trifloxysulfuron-sodium + ametryne and sulfentrazone, although these herbicides were sufficient to solve the problem when applied alone, over the sugarcane planting period.
