Democracy, education and human emancipation: challenges of the current brazilian moment

Abstract

Explaining the meaning of the concept of democracy in its relationship with education, this article points out the contradictory paradoxes and expectations regarding the role of democratization attributed to the school. Then, it clarifies the meaning of human emancipation as a requirement for real democratization, at which point it discusses the theoretical-philosophical perspective that allows us to face the challenges of the democratization of education and to direct the realization of full human emancipation. In the third moment it considers the challenges that this problematic places for the democratization of education in the current world crisis in its specific manifestation in the Brazilian context. Finally, as a conclusion, it addresses the positioning of educational psychology in the face of challenges to be faced.
