Spatial visualization, inductive reasoning, and technical drawing

The difficulties of First-Year Engineering students toward learning Technical Drawing are related with the aptitude level. In order to effectively plan the didactic process, it is necessary to detect early those students who require more attention and support. This study describes the utility of a Visualization test and a Reasoning test to predicting academic achievement in Technical Drawing. Both tests were applied to a sample of 484 Brazilian Engineering students. The data were analised by the Rasch Model. The results suggest that Visualization is the best predictor.
