Parent participation in researches on school bullying

Bullying is a common problem in the interaction pairs and can result in different losses during the development of child victims and aggressors. Recent research indicates high frequency of bullying practice in Brazilian schools, but they are few studies to understand this phenomenon from a multifactorial perspective. This article aims to introduce the concept of bullying and show the importance of considering the family background variables for its understanding. We emphasize the need to include parents of children as participants in empirical research on school bullying and the importance of their participation in both assessing and preventing this problem. Finally, we discuss the inclusion of parents in intervention strategies in the face of bullying, to reduce the risk factors in the family environment and its damage to the socio-emotional development of children.
