Abstract
This article points out conceptual converging points and differences of two essential terms in Second Language Learning/Acquisition Studies today: interlanguage (SELINKER 1972SELINKER, L. Interlanguage. IRAL - International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching, v. 10, n. 3, 209-231, 1972.) and translanguage (GARCÍA 2009GARCÍA, O. Bilingual education in the 21st century: a global perspective. Oxford: Wiley-Blackwell Pub, 2009.). From a small corpus composed of six articles, collected from three Brazilian academic journals, it was possible to understand the context in which the terms are used and find characteristics that define them as well as distinguish them from one another. The results indicate only one point of congruence: the fact that they are languages under construction, made up of elements from the native language, from the additional language, or from other languages.
