Abstract
Objective: To investigate the existence of validated protocols for the care of periodontal patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), to transform them into recommendations for actions that could be developed within the scope of primary health care.
Methods: A scoping review was carried out, and the literature published from 2012 to 2019 was reviewed in the PubMed, Scielo, LILACS, Web of Science and Scopus databases, in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Results: 236 titles were found, of which 37 were selected for full reading. The articles were grouped into four axes, according to the similarity of approaches to the subject addressed.
Conclusion: Studies investigating the impact of the integration of medical and dental care in the glycemic control of patients with DM2 and validating the clinical protocols for multidisciplinary care for this patient in the context of primary health care should be carried out.
