Therapeutic itineraries of COVID-19 survivors after hospital discharge

Abstract

Objective:

To analyze the therapeutic itineraries of survivors of Covid-19 after hospital discharge.

Methodology:

Qualitative study based on the method of thematic oral history, conducted with ten individuals who, after hospital discharge from a public reference service in the municipality of João Pessoa-PB, developed post-Covid condition and sought care. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed using the content analysis technique.

Results and Discussion:

Most participants had to pay for the care received after hospital discharge. This reality indicates that when users need immediate health assistance and do not find viable alternatives through the SUS (Brazil's public health system), they are forced to seek private healthcare.

Conclusion:

It is necessary to develop strategies that guarantee adequate access for individuals in the post-Covid condition to rehabilitation and other healthcare services within the SUS.
