The text offers a discussion of part of the anthropological and sociological literature concerning the recent modernization of the Brazilian family, moving away firom a hierarchical model and toward egalitarian organization. In analyz-ing this process, it is important to take into account the effects of these changes on psychoanalytical culture, which the author sees as an indissoluble part of the imagery of social modernization.
