From annulment in discourse to elimination in act: the subject's suffering and the suicidal act in autism

Abstract

The high rates of ideations, attempts and deaths by suicide among the community of autistic people is a topic that has been investigated frequently and in depth. Within a certain segment of Science, which instrumentalizes the neoliberal logic of suffering management, the phenomenon of suicide in the scope of autism is highlighted, to the same extent that the place reserved for the autistic subject becomes absent from his discursive practice. In this context, this work sought to produce a bibliographic survey on the subject in question, with the objective of highlighting the main lines of force acting on this specific dimension of suffering in autistic people. When the focus of the analysis fell on the forms of expression of these suffering subjects, it became essential to assume that the suicidal act highlights the marks of being, of lack of being and of anguish in face of the real - attributes of an experience suffering that the discourse of science tries to eliminate.
