A contribution to the recovery of the relevance of organizational theories

The relevance gap is defined as the inadequacy of the organization theories to deal with the complex problems faced by contemporary managers. The roots of the gap are located in the mechanistic assumptions supporting Modem Science. As a path to recovering the lost relevance, the Author suggests reviewing the prevailing paradigm towards less dogmatism and recognition of the subjectivity. A plea is made for fostered interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinariity. The institutional approach to organizations and the dialetical use of the theory stock are presented as attempts to close the gap of relevance.

Administration; organization theories; management paradigms; transdisciplinarity
