Abstract:

The present article discusses pedagogical aspects aiming to contribute to teaching and learning Bach's Preludes of the Well-Tempered Clavier. Section one presents a review of the prelude as a musical genre and the different styles that influenced the Well-Tempered Clavier Preludes. Then, there is an analysis of selected preludes that will exemplify the variety of styles found in this work of Bach.

[1] Larissa Paggioli de Carvalho is a doctoral student in piano performance at the University of Northern Colorado where she has worked on research entitled "Edmundo Villani-Côrtes' Works for Violin and Piano: Analysis and Performance Guide". Larissa has graduated from the Universidade de Brasília in 2008 with a bachelor's of music degree in piano and a teaching license. At the University of Wyoming, her master's research was dedicated to Heitor Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4. During the school year of 2013-2014, Larissa was hired as adjunct teacher of class piano at the institution where she currently studies. She has been working actively as a solo and collaborative pianist and also serving as a teacher and researcher. Larissa has recently defended her dissertation and, in May 2016, will be conferred her doctor of arts degree which she has earned with the support of scholarships from the University of Northern Colorado and CAPES.
