Lignin in phenolic foams 66

Lignin can be recovered from sugar cane bagasse, which is largely available in Brazil, as a residue from sugar mills. This work presents a new application for lignin-phenol formaldehyde polymers in cellular materials. The foams obtained were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, open cell content, apparent density, compressive strength, hardness. The lignin-phenol-formaldehyde foam presents a thermal insulating characteristics combined with remarkable mechanical properties, which allows its application as structural-thermal insulation foam
