Phenolic resins have been used in the carbon/carbon composites fabrication as intermediate material, known as carbon/phenolic composite. The present work shows rheological, chromatography and differential scanning calorimetric characterizations of two novolac and one resol phenolic resins. These results have been used to establish the most suitable phenolic resin and the best parameters to be used in the carbon/phenolic composites fabrication. Resol phenolic resin showed the best performance and allowed us to establish the most suitable temperature for the carbon reinforcement impregnation process.
