Based on an ethnography carried out in the city of Florianopolis, of the state of Santa Catarina, in Brazil, this paper discusses the artistic conceptions and world views of independent rock musicians. It focuses on the creation of their band styles and their music composing process. The elaboration of these styles shape a symbolic territory delimited by a hedonistic world perception in contrast to modern society's rationalism. Their world perception is expressed not by verbal articulated discourse but by a specific way of creating music.
