CARTOGRAPHIES IN CYBERSPACE: METHODOLOGICAL EXPERIMENTATIONS IN HYBRID SPACES

Abstract

The aim of this article is to explore the potential of Deleuze and Guattari’s cartography method in the context of digital networks, taking in account the advent of locative media and geolocation technologies that create hybrid spaces in which the experience of moving in the geographical space coincides with the movement through cyberspace. The article discusses the possibilities of associating the cartography method with other methodological strategies, such as the flânerie and the logbooks, to face the complexity of the processes of subjectivation that are currently intersected to intimate assemblages with digital technologies. Finally, we explore strategies that can be devised to escape the striations of a digital space increasingly dominated by control and surveillance, foregrounding how the cartographic attitude can help us to undo the maps, towards processes of creation and singularization.
