Adolescent perceptions of life projects and of teenage fatherhood

In adolescence there are life projects which can be modified by fatherhood experience. Therefore the aim of this study was to investigate the perceptions of adolescents who were not fathers concerning life projects and adolescent fatherhood. In particular it examined their perceptions regarding the impact of adolescent pregnancy on life projects concerning family, school and work. Seven adolescents who were not fathers, aged 13 to 16, of different education and socioeconomic background took part in the study. The answers were submitted to qualitative analysis which revealed in general a diversity of life projects of adolescents who were not fathers regarding school, work and family. Adolescent fatherhood was perceived as negative due to its implications to adolescence and to life projects which would be modified postponed or abandoned.
