PSYCHOLOGY AND PUBLIC POLICIES: IMPASSES AND REINVENTIONS

Abstract

Demarcated by different epistemological and ontological approaches, Psychology presents itself as a field characterized by multiple theoretical productions and practices that move between normalizing and/or resistant biases. The reflections of these constructions in Brazil imply impasses and possibilities in the work of psychologists in public policies, which alludes to the importance of waging critical comments about these interlocutions and their effects. The purpose of this article is to problematize such issue. Initially two psychological paradigms and their relations to the policy interventions in the social context are discussed. In a second step, we analyze the position of Psychology as to its singularities, which are present in contexts of intervention; and beyond that point, we indicate the required problematization of the initial training of psychologists in face of contemporary demands.
