ANALYSIS OF THE WORK WITH THE HOMELESS POPULATION

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the activity of people who work in a social protection program for the homeless population. The theoretical-methodological framework used is the Work Psychodynamics, since its approach of work comprehends it as central in the subjective identity’s construction and in society’s construction. Four collective interviews were done with eight workers from the service, and the data were analyzed through thematic content analysis. The results show the precariousness of work and labor rights, the quantitative reduction of workers, and tensions with the work organization that provoke frustrations and symptoms of psychological suffering. On the other hand, the workers use their crafty intelligence to listen, to run, to dance, to hug, to smile to deal with the users’ demands, and receive from them the affection that gives them the judgment of beauty and utility needed for the activity’s maintenance.
