Public policies of ensuring the right to family and community environment

The Child and Adolescent Statute determines that all children and adolescents have the right to live in a family and community environment. The defense, guarantee and promotion of this right have happened through governmental and non-governmental programs, through one of the services provided by the Brazilian Social Assistance, called Special Social Protection. The goal of this article is to discuss about public policies that guarantee such right through programs which aim family reunification and preservation. The Brazilian law goals to attend of children and adolescents at vulnerability conditions, and there are programs towards this population, although they still are scarce. Thus, this paper discusses the importance of creating programs that focus on this population and their families, as well as training professional staff to enable such work, in order to ensure that the right to live in a family and community environment is kept.
