Gender and race/color articulations in gender violence

This article discusses theoretically the gender/race articulation in gender violence in intimacy relationships. The theoretical-methodological approach is based in Michel Foucault's analysis of power relations and contemporary gender studies (Joan Scott, Heleith Saffioti, Karin Smigay) as well as race and color studies (Florestan Fernandes, Lilia Schwarcz). The field work, including interviews and processes' analysis using a convenience sample was conducted in the domestic and familiar violence judgeship and women's police station, in the city of Porto Alegre from May 2010 until October 2011. We reaffirm the necessary discussion about how race/color is intercrossed in the gender violence in intimacy situations, once vulnerabilities are lived in different ways depending on women singular life experiences and its social determinants.
