Brazil in Songs

ABSTRACT

This text proposes to think about Brazil in a journey through Brazilian music. The legacy of the 1922 Week of Modern Art questions not only modernism, but also how we can think about Brazil and its specific culture. The text makes an overview of recent Brazilian music using methods of reading and analysis in studies that relate theology and literature. It focuses mainly on the lyrics of the songs, including religious music, highlighting aspects of social criticism that make us think of a different Brazil, without discrimination and with democratic spaces for coexistence. The songs are configured as true places for the formation of critical consciousness with a view to the effective participation of citizens in the process of building the country and its culture.
