Conversations and Controversies between Psychoanalysis and Efficacy

Abstract

The present article intends to reflect on the current and controversial debate surrounding the possibility of evaluating psychoanalytical treatment's efficiency, efficacy, and effectiveness. Psychoanalysts have found different viewpoints on this issue. Still, we believe that, before choosing any position, we should thoroughly analyze what these evaluation parameters propose. In this article’s point of view, such debate is based on criteria established not by scientific or clinical research but by business and management fields. In conclusion, it is argued that, before establishing temporary parameters (even in science), it would be more interesting to try to delimit problems and concepts in the psychanalysis field that could set up and support an epistemological discussion.
