Resilience, Subjective Well-Being and Risk and Protection Factors in College Students

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate possible correlations between risk and protective factors, subjective well-being, and resilience among college students. The total sample comprised 412 students. Measures administered included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the School Subjective Well-Being Scale (SSWBS), the Wagnild and Young’s Resilience Scale, and the Scale of Risk and Protective Factors in the University Environment. Results, highlighted correlations between relationships with professors and satisfaction with the course, as well as positive affects at university (r 2 = 0.34) and with satisfaction with the university (r 2 = 0.25); resolution of actions and values with positive affects in the university (r 2 = 0.32) and satisfaction with academic performance and time management (r 2 = 0.27). Findings suggest that actions within universities that promote the quality of the relationship between professors and students may be essential for students to experience favorable levels of satisfaction with the course and envision positive prospects for their professional future.
