Exploratory Factor Analysis and Invariance Analysis on the Vitality Scale (VS)

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate new validity evidence based on internal structure and gender invariance for the Vitality Scale (VS). The sample consisted of 559 participants, from both sexes, over 18 years old (M = 34.6; SD = 12.6), who answered the sociodemographic questionnaire and the VS. The results of the Exploratory Factor Analysis results indicated a single-factor structure, good fit indices (RMSEA = 0.075, CFI = 0.988, TLI = 0.987) and factor loadings above 0.50 for all items, as well as excellent internal consistency coefficients (CR = 0.964, ω = 0.962, α = 0.944). Multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis indicated the invariance of the measurement model between the sexes. The results suggest that VS is an adequate measure to assess vitality in adults.
