Influence of Career and Psychological Capital on Aspects of Life and Work

Abstract

This research was developed with the objective of understanding the interrelationships between career psychological dimensions (negative thoughts and career adaptability), psychological capital and domains of work life (career success and perceived employability) and non-work (satisfaction with life). Two samples were used, the former consisting of 189 university students with a mean age of 21.44 years (SD = 3.33), and 65.1% were female. The latter group consisted of 312 upper-level employees with a mean age of 27.88 years (SD = 5.19), of which 51% were female. The results from structural equation models have demonstrated that for university students the working and non-working life contexts are influenced by adaptability and negative career thoughts. For workers, the results demonstrated the influence of negative career thoughts and the psychological capital. It is discussed applications for research and the context of career guidance and career development.
