The place of Psychology in the Public Prosecutor’s Office: limits and possibilities of action

Abstract:

This article aims to comprehend how Psychology is present in a state Public Prosecution Service in Brazil. We sought to find out how this Public Prosecutor’s Office uses the technical knowledge of Psychology to collaborate with the institution guidelines that lends itself to the observance of the guarantee of individual and collective rights. To achieve this, this qualitative research used documental analysis as a methodological strategy to map the presence of Psychology in the activities of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The results obtained were organized in categories and showed that there is receptivity to psychological knowledge, although sometimes with a subsidiary content and subordinate to the Law. This position points to the necessary reflection on the existence of autonomy for this class for its praxis and of participation in the construction of this workspace for Psychology.
