Understanding forgetting: classical theories and their experimental basis

This study reviews the pioneer theories which sought to explain forgetting. Forgetting is presented as the incapacity to recall information that had been previously available. Theories approached include: Decay, Interference, Retrieval Failure and Schema. Some classic experimental effects which provided empirical support for these models are also presented.
