This article was written with the goal of highlighting, among the contributions of Maria Amelia Matos for the analysis of behavior, those that, in particular, refer to the study of aversive control. Some comments are made about part of the study material of Maria Amelia on aversive control and about some of her activities in this area (advisement, courses taught), especially on some lectures that she did and that led to the article “A ética do exercício de controles aversivos” originally published in 1981.
