Teachers’ Ethical Purposes and affective meanings

Abstract:

This qualitative study investigated, by autobiographical interviews, the affective meanings in the life plans of five Brazilian educators who are publicly recognized for their deep commitment to education. Starting from the theoretical-methodological perspective of the Organizing Models of Thinking and Affective Neuroscience, this study aimed to advance the understanding of the role of feelings in the construction of ethical life plans. This research highlights, as a common phenomenon, the integration of personal objectives with goals beyond the self, which are regulated by the well-being experienced in the teaching profession, in caring for others, and by feelings of pain and indignation in the face of violence that are resignified as drivers to transform reality.
