The more significant data concerning epidemiological, toxicological, clinical and pathological features observed in animals poisoned by Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn are presented. Bovine enzootic haematuria, upper digestive tract carcinomas, haemorrhagic syndrome, intestinal tumors and progressive retinal degeneration ("bright blindness") are reviewed stressing their importance. This review was made to bring to attention the economic importance of the plant regarding cattle raising and also the risk to human health.
