This article studies the Brazilian port system in the light of competition issues. Since the competition between ports in Brazil is imperfect, this lack of competition inside the ports raises the operation prices above competitive levels, increasing the so-called "Brazil Cost". The main target of this article is to evaluate the sources of entry barriers that could block competition inside the ports in Brazil.
