Locus of control, entrepreneurial behavior and performance of small businesses

The purpose of this study is to relate the constructs: entrepreneurial behavior, locus of control and organizational performance. The initial phase consisted of interviews to assist in the task of building the questionnaires for collecting data. The second stage consisted in obtaining data through a survey applied in a non-probability sample of small businesses that serve retail of clothing in Curitiba (PR). After obtaining the data, it was applied the technique Structural Equation Modeling for the test of relations between constructs. Of the tested relations was possible to observe negative influence of external locus of control on performance, positive influence of internal locus on entrepreneurial behavior and also positive influence of entrepreneurial behavior on organizational performance. Finally deserves emphasis the capability of internal locus of control to enhance the influence of entrepreneurial behavior on organizational performance.
