Ranking of scientific production in business administration in Brazil

This paper echoes a broader and collective endeavor from the Brazilian scholarly community. It aims to analyze critically the evolution of the business administration as a scientific field in the country. In fact, in the last two decades, a number of empirical studies and essays were published. In this paper, however, we take an alternative route. This is a preliminary attempt to portrait the Brazilian scientific production after a quantitative approach. We identified and quantified scientific papers published in Brazilian printed "A" journals in the period 2002-2006. We present a ranking based on the production of the leading research institutions. We discuss the results and note that the ranking, albeit providing valuable information, is somehow limited as a performance indicator for the Brazilian scientific production. This is due to the high degree of endogeny observed in three of the four journals analyzed. Finally, we present the limitations of the paper and seek to indicate streams for future research.
