Dramaturgical approach and visual research methods: the observation of impression management on social interactions

This article aims to discuss the dramaturgical approach ally to visual methods of collecting data for the study of impression management. A field study is described and discussed. It is argued that in the observation of social actors (individuals or organizations) managing impressions, the acquisition of data by photographs, films or videos, offers to researcher a powerful record of actions. The research approach was qualitative, both for the gathering and analysis of data. Despite the visual methods may consist of both still images (photographs), the moving images (film and video), to interfere as little as possible in reality observed, opted for the production of only photos of physical environments, without the presence of organizational. To carry out the photos, a digital camera was used. The number of images produced reached 95 photos. It is argued that this work demonstrate some methodological possibilities for organization area by addressing methods of visual search, because despite rather spreaded in visual anthropology and sociology visual, visual methods have only recently been adopted in organizational studies.
