Sphallenum tuberosum (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in Eucalyptus spp. plants in the Municipality of Prado, Bahia, Brazil

The woodborer Sphallenum tuberosum Bates, 1870 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) was found damaging Eucalyptus cloesiana and Eucalyptus grandis trees in the Municipality of Prado, State of Bahia, Brazil in September 2002. Damaged trees, either healthy or decadent, had liana of the genus Stigmaphyllon (Malpighiaceae) envolving their trunks which represents a support for the woodborer larvae to penetrate into trunks of eucalyptus forming downward galleries.
