Structure of the seed coat in four species of the Leguminosae (Caesalpinioideae), occuring in the caatinga (PE Brazil)

According to this paper, the seminal coats of Caesalpinia ferrea, C. pyramidalis, Senna martiana and S. spectabilis var. excelsa were composed of one layer of macrosclereids, coated by a cuticle and a subcuticle layer, followed by a layer of osteosclereids, sclerified parenchyma and another inner layer of osteosclereids. The impermeability of these seed seminal coats is probably restricted to the macrosclereids region.
