The section Chaetostomoides (Naudin) Cogn. comprises only one species native essencially to "campo rupestre" vegetation from Minas Gerais, Bahia and Goiás. In this revision only one species is accepted, M. viminalis (DC.) and synonymised under it M. loricata Naudin and M. virgata Cogn. with the varieties angustifolia Pilger, glabrescens Pilger, gracilis Pilger and subpatens Pilger.
