Selaginellaceae Willk. in the state of São Paulo, Brazil

The present study deals with the floristic survey of Selaginellaceae Willk. in the state of São Paulo. Fourteen native species of three subgenera are recognised: Heterostachys Baker, Stachygynandrum (P. Beauv.) Baker, and Tetragonostachys Jermy. In the state of São Paulo the subgenera Heterostachys and Tetragonostachys are represented by one species each: Selaginella muscosa Spring and Selaginella sellowii Hieron., respectively. The subgenus Stachygynandrum is represented by 12 species: Selaginella contigua Baker, S. convoluta (Arn.) Spring, S. decomposita Spring, S. flexuosa Spring, S. macrostachya (Spring) Spring, S. marginata (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Spring, S. mendoncae Hieron., S. microphylla (Kunth) Spring, S. suavis (Spring) Spring, S. sulcata (Desv. ex Poir.) Spring, S. tenuissima Fée, and S. valida Alston. Selaginella mendoncae and Selaginella sellowii are being mentioned for the first time for the state of São Paulo. Four introduced species are also reported for the studied area: Selaginella kraussiana (Kunze) A. Braun, S. pallescens (C. Presl) Spring, S. plana (Desv. ex Poir.) Hieron., and S. vogelii Spring. Key and descriptions for subgenera and species, as well as, illustrations, geographical distribution, and comments are presented.
