Abstract
The sports constructions, which are genuine temples of the sport, are examples of places with symbolic meanings, cultural and emotional. Places that make up a consciousness that crosses generations, building a social memory full of representations. This article aims to analyze the reports published on the Journal of Sports about the Journalist Mario Filho Stadium – Maracanã, from the time of the initial project discussions until his inauguration, realizing, through a content analysis (Bardin, 2011Bardin L. Análise do conteúdo, 70. São Paulo: Edições; 2011.), how these reports were significant in transforming the stadium into a national symbol.
