Abstract
The aim of this study was to verify the relationship between the body mass index (BMI) and the motor coordination in young athletes of athletics. We studied 24 young men athletes (12,5 ± 0,6 years) of the CRIA-UFJF Project. The athletes were classified in two groups: eutrophic (BMI < 20,6; n = 20) and overweight-obesity (BMI≥20,6; n = 4). The motor coordination was evaluated using the KTK test. There were negative correlation and statistically significant between the BMI and motor coordination (r = -0,69; p < 0,001). The group overweight-obesity showed lower performance on the motor coordination test compared to eutrophic. We conclude that young athletes of athletics with overweight show lower motor coordination.
