Open-access The Club of 13 and the new brazilian soccer scene: an analysis of the championships Baiano, Goiano, Paranaense e Pernambucano

Football clubs are run as businesses and must obtain resources to create competitive advantage, and their team of players is an essential resource. A major source of income for hiring players is selling television quotas, accessible resource to the teams associated with the Club of 13. This paper investigates the relationship between the number of state titles and participation of teams in this association. Data were collected from four championships, Bahia, Goiás, Paraná and Pernambuco, and made ​​linear correlations between participation in Club of 13, the number of titles won and growth of the fans. It was concluded that funds from television quotas are resources which can generate competitive advantage for teams that receive them.
