ABSTRACT
This text presents the results of a research that aims to understand the role of Physical Education in a schooling program for working adults in the city of Porto Alegre/RS. Dialectical historical materialism is used as a theory and research method, pointing out as part of the results the absence of the work category within Physical Education and the claim by the researched subjects that the area can contribute to thinking about work as a human activity fundamental. Finally, it is considered that physical education is an important part of human formation, combined with scientific and technical education, which can contribute to the constitution of a historical project of the working class, overcoming the capital society.
