Abstract
We objectified to analyze the medal board of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games considering the number of inhabitants and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of medalist countries. We inferred that the first positions of the Paralympic Games medal table used by the media were occupied by countries with greater economic potential, which was reinforced by Spearman correlation calculations between the variables investigated in this study. We also noted that Brazil, even not having obtained poor performance, has a great potential for improvement in the number of gold and total medals, given its population size and GDP.
